Stem-and-Leaf Drill

One hundred stem-and-leaf questions: ten warm-ups on reading the display, ten each for mean, mode, range and median, then fifty mixed questions. Students must translate stems and leaves into the original data before calculating.

Example stem-and-leaf plot
Read the data from the key.
If the key says 3 | 4 means 34, then stem 3 and leaf 4 combine to make 34.

Read

Use the key to turn each stem and leaf into a data value.

Mean

Add all the values, then divide by how many values there are.

Mode

Find the repeated value that appears most often.

Range

Largest value minus smallest value.

Median

Use the ordered data from the stem-and-leaf plot to find the middle.
