Finding the median

The hard part is even data sets. This page teaches that first: order the data, find the two middle values, then average them. After 25 even-set questions, odd sets are introduced as the simpler case.

1. Order first

The median is about position. Put the numbers from smallest to largest before choosing the middle.

2. Even sets

With an even number of data values there are two middle values. Add them and divide by 2.

3. Odd sets

With an odd number of data values there is one middle value. That number is the median.
